Playgrounds & Parks
5Sunset Dunes
San Francisco's newest and most ambitious park — 2 miles of car-free oceanfront along the former Upper Great Highway. Opened April 2025, it's already become a favorite for families biking, walking, scootering, and just hanging out by the ocean. Native dune plantings, interpretive signs about Ohlone history, and wide-open space make it feel like a different city. The largest pedestrianization project in SF history.
Larsen Playground (Carl Larsen Park)
A real neighborhood park on Vicente between 19th and 20th — playground with Tot Lot for little ones and bigger equipment for school-age kids. Baseball diamond, Charlie Sava Pool next door, and the Parkside Library across the street. SF Tots Soccer runs classes here. Feels like a small-town park in the middle of the city.
McCoppin Square
A Taraval corridor gem with both a Tot Lot and school-age play area, basketball half-court, tennis court, baseball field with bleachers, and a contemplative garden. Movies in McCoppin free outdoor screenings every Friday in October. The Parkside Library is right next door. Heavily forested walking paths make it feel bigger than it is.
West Sunset Playground
Recently renovated 17-acre park with something for every age. Climbable netting, slides, swings, monkey bars — plus batting cages, baseball fields, basketball courts, and a security fence around the playground perimeter that parents love. Shade trees throughout. After-school programs for middle schoolers. The new Ortega branch library is right next door. Birthday party picnic areas available by reservation.
Sunset Playground
Major renovation completed — upgraded rec center, new children's play areas, improved paths and lighting. Tot lot for little ones, bigger equipment for school-age kids. Baseball diamond, basketball courts, and the Noriega corridor's shops and cafes are a short walk away. Strong community involvement shaped the redesign. One of the Sunset's anchor parks.

A Sunset institution — modern taqueria meets sports bar with Nick's Way tacos, arcade games (Pac-Man, pop-a-shot), and TVs everywhere. Kids can play games while parents watch the game. Weekend brunch with breakfast burritos and margaritas. The kind of neighborhood spot where families camp out all afternoon.
Devil's Teeth Baking Company
The Sunset's most beloved bakery. Owner Hilary Passman left her law career to bake — and the neighborhood is better for it. Famous breakfast sandwiches on fresh-baked biscuits, cinnamon rolls the size of your head, and a walk to Ocean Beach is basically mandatory after. Weekend lines are long but move fast. Kids love watching the bakers work through the open kitchen.
Outerlands
Farm-to-table at the edge of the world — literally steps from Ocean Beach. The wood-paneled dining room feels like a beach cabin. Dog-friendly outdoor seating. The kind of restaurant that makes you fall in love with the Outer Sunset.
