About This Spot

The ruins of a massive Victorian-era public bathhouse that burned down in 1966. Kids think they've discovered a secret fortress — the concrete foundations, tunnels, and cave are genuine adventure territory. Views of the Pacific Ocean, seals on the rocks below, and the Lands End Trail starts right here. Part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Free, open air, and unlike anything else in the city.

Parent Tips

💡

The stairs down to the ruins are steep — hold little hands. The cave at the back is thrilling for kids but can be slippery. Dress in layers because the wind off the ocean is no joke. Not stroller-friendly — use a carrier for younger kids. The visitor center at the top has bathrooms and a small exhibit about the history.

"My 7-year-old said this was better than Disneyland. He spent an hour exploring the ruins pretending he was an archaeologist. Free and unforgettable."

"The cave is the highlight — bring a flashlight and watch kids lose their minds. Also seals! We always spot seals on the rocks below."

"This is our go-to when visitors come to town with kids. Everyone always says 'I had no idea this existed in San Francisco.' It feels like a secret."
